Battle of Intelligence: ChatGPT vs Perplexity, Who is Superior?

Recently, I had the opportunity to test two popular artificial intelligence (AI) models, namely ChatGPT and Perplexity. I asked both of them the same five questions to see how they responded and compared the quality of their answers. The questions cover a variety of topics, from science to the arts, to see how broad their knowledge and understanding abilities are.

First, I would like to introduce these two AI models. ChatGPT is a large language model developed by OpenAI, designed to generate human-like text. Meanwhile, Perplexity is an AI model also developed by other companies and has similar capabilities. Both are designed to understand and respond to questions or commands in a natural and easy-to-understand manner.

My first question is about Einstein's theory of relativity. I wanted to see how these two AI models explained this fairly complex concept. ChatGPT provides long and detailed answers, explaining how the general and special theories of relativity work, as well as providing relevant examples. On the other hand, Perplexity also provides good answers, but with shorter and simpler explanations. However, Perplexity manages to convey the essence of the theory more effectively, making it easier for laypeople to understand.

My second question is about art history. I asked the two AI models to explain the Cubist art school and its influence on modern art. ChatGPT provides very in-depth answers, explaining the background, development and important figures in Cubism, as well as providing examples of famous works of art. Perplexity also provides a good answer, but with a more focused focus on the influence of Cubism on modern art, providing examples of how Cubist principles are used in contemporary works of art.

My third question is about science, specifically about the theory of evolution. I asked both AI models to explain how the evolutionary process occurs and provide examples of evolution that occurred in the history of life on Earth. ChatGPT provides very comprehensive answers, explaining the mechanisms of evolution, natural selection, and spectacular examples of evolution. Perplexity also provides good answers, but with an emphasis on aspects of evolution that are easier for the general public to understand, such as adaptation and speciation.

My fourth question is about technology, specifically about the development of artificial intelligence. I asked both AI models to explain the history of AI development, challenges faced, and possible future applications of AI. ChatGPT provides very in-depth answers, explaining the beginnings of AI, the development of algorithms, and the applications of AI in various fields, such as health and transportation. Perplexity also provides a good answer, but with more focus on AI's potential to improve efficiency and solve complex problems across multiple sectors.

My fifth and final question is about philosophy, specifically the concept of freedom. I asked both AI models to explain various philosophical perspectives on freedom, from determinism to existentialism. ChatGPT provides very comprehensive answers, explaining various theories of freedom, from ancient to modern views, and providing examples of how the concept of freedom is applied in everyday life. Perplexity also provides good answers, but with an emphasis on aspects of freedom that are more relevant to modern life, such as freedom of expression and freedom of choice.

After analyzing the answers from both AI models, I concluded that both have advantages and disadvantages. ChatGPT stands out for providing very detailed and comprehensive answers, making it especially useful for those looking for an in-depth explanation of a topic. However, ChatGPT's answers can sometimes be too long and technical, making them less accessible to laypeople. On the other hand, Perplexity stands out for providing simpler and easier to understand answers, making it ideal for those looking for a short and to-the-point explanation of a topic. However, Perplexity's answers sometimes lack detail and comprehensiveness, making them less than satisfactory for those seeking more in-depth knowledge.

Overall, I was very impressed with the capabilities of both AI models. They demonstrate an extraordinary ability to understand and respond to questions in a natural and easy-to-understand manner. While both have advantages and disadvantages, they offer invaluable capabilities in helping us understand and navigate this complex world. In the next few years, we can expect even greater advances in AI technology, allowing us to harness the full potential of artificial intelligence to improve our lives.
